Devil’s followers: Man executes his mother on ISIS orders

Ali saqar

A 20-year-old Syrian Islamic State jihadist shot his own mother in the head before a public audience on Thursday, after she had been accused of apostasy. The execution, brutal even by Islamic State standards, took place in the Syrian city of Al-Raqqah, the de-facto capital of the Islamic State caliphate, before “hundreds of people,” according to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The Syrian activist group Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently said that jihadi Ali Saqr al-Qasem shot his 45-year-old mother Lena in the head with an assault rifle in front of a large crowd. Her son was the one who turned his mother in to Islamic State leaders and he carried out the execution near the post office where she worked. The Islamic State often uses the charge of apostasy loosely to justify executing those who do not support or who criticize the organization. The man reported his mother to his marauding bosses, who pronounced the death penalty because Lena had gone ‘out of the fold of Islam’ by exercising her right to dissent — privately. Barring this ‘crime’, her conduct, according to neighbours, was ‘normal’ and she had in no way violated the IS’s barbaric code of living. This is not the first case of matricide in history. But what is perversely unique and haunting about this repulsive act is that it was committed in the name of Islam. The man pumped bullets into his mother because the IS decreed it was his ‘religious’ duty to do so. Who is to blame — the son under the IS spell or Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s concept of ‘justice’, which includes throwing people down from rooftops, slitting throats and burning humans alive, as in the case of the captured Jordanian pilot? The man involved in this hideous crime is 21; this shows Al Baghdadi’s ‘catch them young’ philosophy is paying off — and not only in the charnel house that is Syria. The murdered woman thought the US-led coalition would win and IS, with all its monstrosities, would pass into history. Should we share her optimism? Those who could liberate the Levant from the IS curse are themselves at each other’s throats, so what chance does the US-led coalition have of preventing more such acts? IS is known for its ability to attract many disenfranchised youth from the Muslim world who are attracted to the group’s wealth, social media suaveness and expansion over a large swath of territory it now calls its own. Young people from all around the world are leaving home and hearth to join IS in Iraq and Syria and are being indoctrinated with all the ruthlessness IS has shown the world over the last few years. It is shocking how, after all this barbarity, the group is still seeing record numbers of new recruits. No doubt, this latest execution has been carried out to curb any kind of dissent from within but is also being used as a tool to lure in more young people who are morbidly fascinated by this level of cruelty.
