Pakistan, Saudi Arabia agree to enhance ties in all fields: Sartaj

FotorCreatedISLAMABAD: Advisor to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz said Thursday that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation in all fields.

Commenting on the visit of Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia Adel Bin Ahmed al Jubeir, he said both the sides have decided to hold meeting of foreign ministers of the two countries in Islamabad and Riyadh alternatively to discuss overall situation and set the future targets.

He said Saudi foreign minister also apprised Pakistani leadership about the anti-terror coalition. He said Pakistan had always been part of all anti terror initiatives and steps.

Sartaj Aziz said during the current month, all foreign ministers would meet in Saudi Arabia to ascertain the nature of cooperation to be extended by respective countries.

He said ongoing tension between Iran and Saudi Arabia was also discussed and Pakistan expressed its concerns over the situation.

He said the burning of the Saudi Consulate building in Iran was unfortunate, as according to law, every state was bound to protect the diplomatic missions operating in the country.

Sartaj Aziz said Pakistan also expressed concern over the Iran Saudi Arabia tension and hoped that the situation would normalize to ensure unity among Muslim Ummah, without having any impact on the whole region.
The Foreign Advisor observed that it would take sometime to subside the situation. However, he said an OIC summit would be held in Turkey in April and till then, efforts would continue to avert any intensity in tension and political solution would be sought to the issue.

He said if the tension intensified, it would have negative impact on the region as well as the peace. He said the Saudi Foreign Minister clarified that every country becoming part of the anti-terror coalition would decide as what kind of cooperation they would extend.

He said Pakistan could extend cooperation in training, capacity building, counter-insurgency and further cooperation would be decided in future as per needs.

He said Pakistan was already cooperating with some countries on counter-insurgency based on the experiences it had obtained during previous years.

Earlier, talking to a television channel, the Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Bin Ahmed al Jubeir said that both the countries had a number of joint commissions.

They had regular interactions to discuss regional challenges and issues and looked for ways to broaden the partnership.He said since inception of Pakistan, both the countries have had strategic ties in all fields including military, economic and investment.

The foreign minister said his visit was an opportunity to exchange views with Pakistani leadership on different matters and to look for ways for broadening partnership.

He said both the sides also discussed economic, cultural and investment cooperation. The Saudi foreign minister thanked the government of Pakistan for extending warm hospitality to him during his visit.-APP
